House; Hel
In both his past as a katana with sentience and current work as an agent for Hell Correspondence, he is no stranger to death and the aspects associated with it. More specifically, the hate, suffering, and despair of those who feel wronged by another enough to wish death on that person. Also, technically he and his coworkers “murder” on the behalf of the people that request their services, furthering his connection to death. While his personality is not one that would match the House, he has a very familiar, sometimes bitter keenness of its impact.
Power; Shadow Control

Personality;
Upon first glance, Ren seems like a carefree, yet observant individual. Most of the time he can be seen with a gentle smile, and tends to be harmlessly inquisitive. He’s not pushy, but he has an agenda that he’s earnest in following. Characteristic of most young adults, he takes interest in unusual occurrences and dislikes boredom.

With how he acts, it’s hard to believe what his actual duty in the mortal world is. He’s a companion of Ai Enma, also known as Hell Girl. There’s an online phenomenon called Hell Correspondence, in which she can carry out the grievances of people. In a nutshell, one with a strong enough grudge can write in the name of someone they want sent to Hell instantly without a trace, at the cost of condemning their own soul to Hell after death. What makes it an interesting, maybe satisfying experience is that the person sent is subjected to a torture tailored to the creativity of Ai and her companions, and most often based on whatever crime that they had inflicted on the client and others. Needless to say, many of those who had their name written down are unpleasant folks and get their just desserts. Ai’s companions will usually do research to figure out why so-and-so is sending a person to Hell. They are not allowed to directly influence the decision of their client, but can blend themselves with society to gain further insight.

Doing the above in the mortal world surprisingly gives Ren an even-minded view of people. The “deal in Hell” system does show both the good and bad of the world, and with the group’s preliminary observations bringing to light more than just victims and perpetrators in people. If someone’s involved in the ordeal that needs help, Ren doesn’t mind being the gentle company that can offer some degree of comfort for them. Even if it’s being nice is for the sake of obtaining info or clarifying intentions, he’s mostly genuine in the concern itself, and can feel sympathetic towards targets of the Hell Girl if he feels like the system was used for something unwarranted (one case in question was where Hell Correspondence was used as blackmail for an abusive relationship).

However, when things concern his true feelings, he can be very distant. Contrary to his work of keeping a watchful eye on people with his youkai abilities, he does not like by being closely examined by others, as seen when he’s is very irritated by Kikuri (best described as an enigmatic sociopath in the form of a creepy girl) pestering him about his true form. Unsurprisingly, this worker of a grudge-avenging service possesses a cruel, analytical side to him. As one of the group who takes part in mentally torturing a target before they are sent to Hell (and has been doing doing it for about two centuries), he can casually point out their wrongs and mock them, all with a calm smile on his face. While he can be more invested into cases that catch his interest, in the end he has to forgotten by other humans involved once the job is done, in order to preserve the service’s mysterious nature. He can hold strong emotions and sometimes act on them, but Ren is not willing to forge strong bonds due to his fleeting presence on mortals. The only people he was considerably close to were his fellow companions under Ai, and the Miss herself. He shows a good amount of concern towards them, but knows that they’re just as competent as he is with their work and will respect their choices, even he doesn’t fully understand them.

His otherwise pleasant and caring demeanor comes from a general grasp of humanity, and a quiet resentment towards his origins. Ichimoku Ren is a youkai called a tsukumogami, an object that gains human-like awareness after existing for at least one hundred years. He happened to formerly be a katana, one that exchanged many hands and used for selfish deeds. Being forced to witness countless violence and being unable to do anything (prior to Ai giving him his human form, he had no control over how he was used) can leave one with a strong dislike for such pointless suffering, and a need to do some good for others, even while on the job. However, he likes observing people, further emphasized by his power to "see" in places where he can't physically be by projecting a large, yet unseen eye on surfaces like walls. Through observation and interactions, he mostly understands human behavior from a logical standpoint. However, humans aren’t always logical, that which at times can put him at a loss. He tends to be the one confused by the more eccentric motivations behind the cases, and ones involving twisted relationships and love both fascinate and unsettle him greatly.

Also, humorously he has a very positive self/body image. He doesn’t go out of his way to flaunt it, but still is plenty aware of his attractive appearance enough to be good-humored about it toward others. Also, it works to his advantage in some situations. In his own time, he does have a tendency to do vain things like pose in a mirror or act dramatically. It’s easy to drag him out of his little world though; he’s just as concerned about his more serious image in the eyes of his people he cares about.
